Well I used the matches stove and stove gasoline twice already and they were used when I was level 3.... It took a bit of thinking but yeah. I've also used dental floss as well.

I'll have to slow down and read more carefully.
Hope I figure it out soon.  I did a tally today.  Over 1200 items in the inventory.

You guys need to think outside the box. I take around 30-40 seconds pondering each choice during encounters to be sure I'm not missing something

I am a problem solver! My only problem is I usually try to solve quick and easy, you know, aim small miss small. I could see how this would make me miss an opportunity tho. Then again, maybe u used it in a challenge I haven't seen yet?  I guess it's my fault tho. I usually slap leather and draw my smoke wagon instead of standing there sweating. I guess next time I think a little instead of just solving my problem with violence and brute force.

I have used all the items previously listed in the base quests you get upon leaving the bunker. You guys have all seen the challenges just not used the tools correctly.

I just used the safehouse for the first time.  Main reason... to make my inventory easier to use so that I can pull out any of those odd items I might want to try to solve mission challenges in unique ways.

I want to use the dental floss, the stove, and maybe fishing line or the saw.

Used the dental floss and fishing line for the same thing.

Did you use them in special challenges or in normal locations?

by normal locations do you mean anything that isn't a challenge? I used them in challenges two different ones I believe but I don't believe they were "special"

Anyone know what the preferred terms are for the following types of encounters?

Standard exploring - generic locations, same text options again and again, limited to "fight" and "run".
Challenge - can be generic location based (mall), level limited, or specific location (Mall of America)

It just helps when people use the same terms when talking about stuff.  Perhaps Ed or Ryan might favor us with the developer's adjective for these different encounter types.

And Special Challenges for the ones that pop-up automatically after finishing to search an area?

We should agree on a standard :)
